Melbourne High School's football team closed its spring camp with a 44-0 win over Fort Pierce Westwood on Friday, May 15, showcasing a high-octane offense and a newly restructured defense. The Bulldogs scored touchdowns on four of their first five drives, building a 28-0 lead by halftime. "We were expecting our offense to be as dominant as they were," said head coach Jeff Pannucci, noting the team's "one of the best offensive lines in the county" and "two of the greatest running backs in the county." The game featured seven new defensive players making their debut, a move Pannucci called "necessary" after a "silly play" in the first half. "A lot of young kids grew up," he added. Tyrese Jefferson led the offense with 14 carries, 102 yards, and a touchdown, capping an 80-yard drive with a 21-yard run on the opening possession. Quarterback CJ Hall added 19 rushing yards and a touchdown, while Will Reinhold threw a 28-yard scoring pass to Jeremiah Thomas. In the second half, Hall connected with EJ Hall on a 50-yard touchdown pass. "We did really good executing on both sides of the ball," said CJ Hall, who completed 7 of 10 passes for 115 yards and one interception. The defense, though untested, held Westwood scoreless for the game. Pannucci praised the team's "team effort overall," though he acknowledged the defense needs more work. "We replaced seven guys on defense," he said. "We’ll see how they handle the pressure." The Bulldogs will next face Satellite High in their regular-season opener on August 28.
