Local officials said the event was free to attend, though parking near the waterfront was limited. The fireworks were part of a broader Independence Day celebration in Brevard County, which also included a parade in Cocoa and a concert in Titusville. The MelBOOM tradition began in 2015 as a way to celebrate the area’s connection to the space program and its role in NASA’s history.
Residents said the display was a fitting way to mark the milestone. 'It’s cool to see something this big in our own backyard,' said Sarah Thompson, a spectator from Melbourne.
