The Marietta College Pioneers softball team traveled to Florida over spring break to compete in the Space Coast Spring Games, a regional tournament held in Brevard County. The event, which runs through March 17, features teams from across the Southeastern United States.
The Pioneers joined 12 other colleges and universities in the tournament, which is hosted at multiple fields across the Space Coast. The games are part of a larger effort to provide collegiate teams with preseason competition opportunities.
Spring break tournaments like this are common for college athletic programs, allowing teams to build chemistry and test strategies before the regular season begins. The Pioneers’ head coach, Jamie Smith, said the team used the trip to focus on fundamentals.
The tournament includes games at locations such as the Palm Bay Sports Complex and the Titusville Regional Park. Fans from across the region are expected to attend games throughout the week.
