Brevard County school officials confirmed the situation was resolved quickly and safely, with no students or staff members harmed. The school district is thanking first responders for their role in the incident.
The lockdown began shortly before 2:30 p.m. when school personnel observed a person near the campus who raised concerns. Authorities arrived within minutes and detained the individual, who was not affiliated with the school. No weapons were reported, and the incident did not involve the school’s grounds.
Brevard County Public Schools released a statement saying the incident was handled by law enforcement and that the school returned to normal operations by 3:45 p.m. The district emphasized that all staff and students were accounted for and that no injuries occurred.
School officials said the prompt response by first responders prevented any escalation. Port St. John school, which serves approximately 600 students in grades K-5, is located on State Road 520 near the Melbourne-British Airway Airport. The district has not yet released details about the detained individual or the outcome of the investigation.
