Brevard County Transit Director Jordan was elected president of the Florida Public Transit Association last week, a position that will see her represent public transportation systems across the state. The election, confirmed during the association’s annual meeting in Tampa, marks Jordan’s first major leadership role outside Brevard County.
Jordan, who has overseen Brevard’s transit system since 2019, has focused on expanding bus routes and improving accessibility in the county’s growing communities. Her work includes a 2022 initiative that added 15 new routes to serve areas like Titusville and Cocoa, which officials say reduced wait times by 20%.
The Florida Public Transit Association includes 32 member agencies, from Miami-Dade’s Metrorail to rural counties like Hamilton. Jordan’s election follows a statewide push to modernize transit infrastructure, including a 2023 state law allocating $1.2 billion for public transportation projects.
Brevard County officials said Jordan’s experience in navigating local and state funding programs will be critical as the association lobbies for increased federal grants. ‘She’s been a steady hand here,’ said County Commissioner Lisa Nguyen. ‘Now she’ll bring that same focus to statewide issues.’
Jordan’s term begins in January. She has not yet outlined specific priorities for the association but has mentioned addressing workforce shortages and integrating electric buses into Florida’s fleet. The association’s next meeting is scheduled for March in Orlando.
