The City of Melbourne’s Public Works and Utilities Department is closing the right eastbound lane of W. Eau Gallie Blvd. just west of Apollo Blvd. on Friday, March 13. The closure will happen between 9 p.m. and 12 a.m. as workers clean a sewer line. Drivers should plan alternate routes during this time.

The city says traffic control measures will be in place to guide vehicles around the work zone. Officials emphasized that the closure is necessary to maintain infrastructure and prevent future issues. The work is part of ongoing efforts to upgrade the city’s aging sewer system.

Ameer Hasan, a city representative, said the project is expected to take three hours. He urged residents to avoid the area if possible and to follow signs directing traffic. The lane closure will affect eastbound traffic near the intersection with Apollo Blvd., a busy thoroughfare in the western part of the city.

For questions, residents can call Hasan at (321) 608-5173. The city has not announced plans for similar closures in the near future but says infrastructure projects will continue as needed.
