Jim Stables was sworn in as chief of Brevard County Fire Rescue on July 23, 2026, following his confirmation by the Brevard County Commission. Stables replaces Patrick Voltaire, who retired after serving as chief since 2022. Voltaire had worked with Fire Rescue since 2000, starting as a firefighter and emergency medical technician. Stables brings more than two decades of experience in firefighting and executive leadership across Florida and Tennessee. He most recently served as town manager of Mount Carmel, Tennessee, and previously held roles as district chief with Brevard County Fire Rescue. His career also includes stints as fire chief in Boynton Beach, Johnson City, Tennessee, and Palm Bay, Florida. Stables earned a bachelor’s degree in professional studies-public administration from Barry University and is pursuing a Master of Public Administration from the same institution. As fire chief, he will oversee operations, emergency response, fire prevention, and administrative functions for one of the county’s largest public safety departments. Stables previously worked as interim city manager in Boynton Beach and has held leadership roles in multiple fire departments across the state. His appointment comes after a transition period following Voltaire’s retirement, which marks the end of a 26-year career with Brevard County Fire Rescue. Stables’ background in both municipal and fire service leadership is expected to shape the department’s approach to emergency management and community outreach. The county commission praised his experience during the confirmation process, citing his track record in executive roles and public administration.
