Jensen Beach High School hosted Merritt Island High School on April 24, 2026, in a spring season baseball game drawing fans to the school's stadium. The contest, part of the Brevard County High School Athletic Conference, was the first of two scheduled meetings between the rivals this season. Both teams entered the game with undefeated records in conference play. "This is always a big game," said Jensen Beach coach Mark Thompson. "The kids know what's at stake." The game drew an estimated 300 spectators, many of whom arrived before first pitch. Merritt Island's starting pitcher, junior Ethan Carter, struck out seven batters in the first inning, setting the tone for a defensive battle. Jensen Beach responded with a three-run second inning, fueled by a two-out double by senior outfielder Jake Ramirez. The teams traded leads throughout the game, with Merritt Island tying the score in the fourth on a solo home run by sophomore catcher Liam Nguyen. The game remained close through the final innings, with both teams leaving runners on base in key situations. "We executed our plan early," said Merritt Island coach Sarah Lin. "But Jensen Beach made a few plays we couldn't match." The game ended with Jensen Beach winning 6-5 in walk-off fashion, with Ramirez driving in the winning run on a bases-loaded single in the seventh inning. The victory kept Jensen Beach atop the conference standings, while Merritt Island fell to 4-2 in league play. The teams will meet again on May 12 at Merritt Island High School. Both schools have qualified for the regional playoffs, with the winner of their head-to-head series earning a seeding advantage.
