The Indian River Lagoon Fest will occur on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Front Street Park, 2210 Front Street, Melbourne. Organized by the City of Melbourne, City of West Melbourne, Brevard County Natural Resources Management Department, and the Indian River Lagoon National Estuary Program, the event is free and open to all. The festival aims to highlight the ecological importance of the Indian River Lagoon through hands-on activities and educational exhibits.
Environmental groups will set up booths to discuss restoration projects, citizen science opportunities, and volunteer efforts. Food trucks, live music by Miranda Realino, arts and crafts vendors, a bounce house, face painting, and games will be available for children. A raffle at 1:30 p.m. offers prizes, with tickets available at the City of Melbourne’s welcome booth and vendor tables. Participants earn one ticket for each interaction with vendors.
A Hook Kids on Fishing clinic runs from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. for children aged 5–15. Advance registration is required through the Anglers for Conservation website. An eco-themed Halloween costume contest at 11 a.m. encourages creative outfits made from recycled materials or inspired by nature. Prizes include tickets to Brevard Zoo for children 8 and under and Central Florida Kayaking for older participants.
From 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the Front Street Civic Center will host environmental presentations by local experts on topics like sea turtles, the lagoon’s ecosystem, and disappearing shorelines. The event combines recreation with education, offering a chance to learn about conservation efforts while enjoying family-friendly activities. No tickets are required for entry, and all are welcome to attend.
