Incumbents either won their races or advanced to runoffs in Brevard County's Aug. 18 primary elections, with no surprises in the results. Republican lawmakers Brian Hodgers and Robert Brackett won their State House races, while several local contests will require November runoffs. In State House District 32, Hodgers will face Democrat Juan Hinojosa in November. Brackett, who won his District 34 race, will compete against Democrat Jordyn Guadalupe Balderas. Matt Woodside secured the GOP nomination for the open District 31 seat and will face Democrat Daniel Lewis Cicirelli. On the Brevard County School Board, Megan Wright retained her District 1 seat, while Districts 2 and 5 will go to runoffs after no candidate earned a majority. In District 2, incumbent Gene Trent received 42% of the vote in a three-way race, forcing him into a runoff with Kyle Savage, who got 31%.
The open District 5 race will pit Tammy Dennis against Michele McCormack in November. In the Brevard County Commission races, Micah Loyd and Rob Feltner won their respective GOP primaries in Districts 1 and 4. Loyd will face Democrat Aldon Bookhardt, while Feltner will go up against write-in candidates. The results highlight the strength of current officeholders, with only a few races showing close competition. The lack of surprises underscores the entrenched political landscape in Brevard County, where incumbents have maintained control in key local and state races.
