Holy Trinity senior cross-country runner Evan Spreitzer has been named Florida Dairy Farmers Class 1A Runner of the Year, capping off a season that saw him win the state championship and break his own school record. The award was announced earlier this month, recognizing Spreitzer’s dominance on the course and his dedication to the sport.
Spreitzer, who has committed to Furman University, said the honor highlights years of effort. “It means a lot,” he said. “It’s an award to help show all the hard work I put in over the years.” He initially joined the team to stay in shape for soccer but found his passion for cross-country, leading to a career filled with achievements.
This fall, Spreitzer finished second at the state meet as a junior before dominating as a senior. At the Class 1A state championship, he won by 31 seconds, slowing down near the end to conserve energy for future races. A week later, he competed in the Brooks XC South Region championship in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he ran 14 minutes, 52 seconds — a time that broke his own school record.
Holy Trinity coach Marc Bailey called Spreitzer the greatest distance runner in the school’s history. “It’s an honor to coach the greatest distance runner in Holy Trinity history,” Bailey said. He believes Spreitzer has the potential to become an Olympian. Spreitzer will compete in the Brooks XC Nationals in San Diego next month, where he placed 15th with a time of 15:45.
Spreitzer’s performance has drawn attention beyond Brevard County. His combination of speed, endurance, and consistency has set him apart from peers. With his commitment to Furman, he aims to continue competing at the highest levels. For now, he’s focused on finishing his senior season strong and preparing for college.
