The event will feature a 5K run and a Kids Dash for younger participants. Organizers say the race is for all ages and abilities, whether attendees are competitive runners, casual walkers, or families looking for a morning activity. The AVET Project, a nonprofit focused on supporting military families, has held the event annually for several years.
Participants can register online in advance, though on-site registration will also be available. The race route will wind through The Avenue Viera’s open spaces, with finish-line festivities including music, food vendors, and activities for children. The event is part of a broader effort to recognize the sacrifices made by military children, who often face challenges like frequent relocations and parental deployments.
AVET Project founder Maria Gonzalez said the event aims to bring the community together. 'This is about showing military families they’re not alone,' she said in a statement. 'Every step taken here helps fund programs that directly support them.' Last year’s event raised over $50,000 for local military family assistance initiatives. The race is one of several community events in Brevard County this month focused on military recognition.
