The National Weather Service in Melbourne has warned that Tuesday will be the wettest day of the week, though most residents will see less than 3 to 4 inches of rain. Scott Kelly, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said the storms follow a small funnel cloud that appeared over Melbourne on Sunday, May 31. "The next couple of days will be fairly wet, with Tuesday being the wettest," Kelly said. "Most people are not going to be seeing 3 to 4 inches of rain but everybody will get some rainfall." Lightning and strong winds are also expected during the storm. By Thursday, June 4, the weather is expected to dry out as a weak cold front moves across the state. Temperatures will drop by 5 to 7 degrees, with highs in the mid-80s. Kelly noted that winds will increase to 15 to 20 mph, with gusts up to 25 mph. The cold front is unusual for this time of year, as it typically brings cooler temperatures in late fall or early winter. "It’ll be breezy, but not extreme," Kelly said. The storms and cold front come as Brevard County prepares for the summer season, with residents advised to stay alert for changing weather conditions. The National Weather Service has not issued any flood warnings, but officials are monitoring the situation closely. "This is not typical for June," Kelly said. "We’re seeing a pattern that’s more common in October or November." The unusual weather has prompted some local businesses to prepare for potential disruptions, though no major events have been canceled. The cold front is expected to move out of the region by midweek, leaving behind cooler temperatures and drier conditions.
