The flag-lowering order applies to all state and county buildings, including the Brevard County Administration Building in Palm Bay and the Florida Capitol in Tallahassee. The flags will remain at half-staff through the end of the workday on Friday.
A private funeral service for Posey is expected to be held in the coming weeks, though details have not been released. His family has asked for privacy during the mourning period.
Posey’s legacy includes legislation aimed at improving school funding and expanding vocational training programs. He also served on the Brevard County School Board before entering the state Senate. Local leaders said his passing marks the end of an era for Brevard politics.
