The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is hosting an open house on October 1 to gather community feedback on plans for Ellis Road in Brevard County. The event will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Brevard County Government Center, 2775 Judge Fran Jimeno Way, Melbourne. Residents are encouraged to attend to learn about proposed improvements and voice concerns directly to project officials.
FDOT officials said the meeting will focus on the first phase of a multiyear effort to modernize Ellis Road, a key corridor connecting Melbourne to the northern parts of the county. Topics will include traffic signal upgrades, lane expansions, and pedestrian safety measures. Project managers will display concept maps and 3D models to help attendees visualize potential changes.
The agency emphasized that public input will shape the final design. "We want to hear from people who use this road daily," said FDOT spokesperson Sarah Lin. "Whether it’s about traffic patterns, safety concerns, or drainage issues, your feedback matters." Attendees can speak with engineers, submit written comments, or fill out surveys during the event.
Ellis Road has seen increased congestion in recent years due to population growth. FDOT said the project aims to address bottlenecks while maintaining access to local businesses and schools. The open house follows a series of community meetings held in June and August, where residents raised concerns about construction timelines and environmental impacts.
