The City of Melbourne is conducting roadwork to upgrade the corridor, a project officials say will enhance safety and traffic flow. The closures will affect both directions of the road during evening hours, with detours in place for motorists. Residents and commuters are urged to adjust travel plans to avoid delays.
The work is part of the city's annual infrastructure maintenance plan, which includes resurfacing roads, repairing potholes, and updating drainage systems. City officials confirmed the project is expected to take three nights, with crews working from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. each day. Nearby businesses have been notified, and signage will be posted at key intersections to direct traffic.
Melbourne Public Works Director Lisa Martinez said the project addresses long-standing issues on the boulevard, including cracked pavement and drainage inefficiencies. "This is routine maintenance," she said. "We’re trying to prevent bigger problems down the line." The city has not released a cost estimate for the work, but similar projects in the area have ranged from $500,000 to $1.2 million.
Drivers are advised to use alternate routes, such as Eau Gallie Avenue or State Road 523, during the closure period.
