Four wrestlers from Brevard County schools captured individual titles at the FHSAA state wrestling championships, which took place earlier this month. The victories highlight the growing strength of high school wrestling programs across the Space Coast. Competitors from 16 schools across Florida participated in the event, with Brevard athletes securing four of the 32 available titles. The wins are the latest in a series of successes for Brevard wrestlers, who have consistently performed well in state competitions over the past decade. Two of the champions came from Satellite High School, where head coach Mark Thompson said the team's focus on technique and mental preparation has paid dividends. 'We've been working on fundamentals all season,' Thompson said. 'It's rewarding to see that translate into state titles.' The championships, held at the Edmunds Center in Orlando, drew over 1,200 wrestlers and spectators. Among the Brevard champions was a senior from West Boca Raton High School, who became the first wrestler from his school to win a state title. The event also featured a record number of female competitors, with 15 girls participating in the 12 weight classes designated for female athletes. Local officials praised the athletes' dedication, noting that many balance wrestling with academic responsibilities. 'These kids are pushing themselves in every area of life,' said Brevard County Schools Superintendent Karen Smith. 'Their success on the mat is a testament to their hard work.'
