Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Monday that Florida set a new record for tourist visits in 2025, with 143.3 million people traveling to the state. The figure surpasses the previous record of 138.5 million visitors set in 2024 and reflects a 3.5% year-over-year increase. The announcement came during a press event at the Florida Department of Commerce in Tallahassee, where DeSantis highlighted tourism as a key driver of the state’s economy.
The record-breaking numbers include both domestic and international travelers. According to the Florida Office of Tourism, 92% of visitors came from within the U.S., with California, New York, and Georgia leading the list of top source states. International visitors rose by 6.2%, with growth in markets from Brazil, the United Kingdom, and India. Brevard County, home to Cape Canaveral and Kennedy Space Center, reported a 4.8% increase in visitors compared to 2024, bringing its annual total to 7.2 million.
DeSantis credited Florida’s tourism boom to infrastructure improvements, including expanded airport capacity and faster rail connections between major cities. “We’ve invested in making Florida more accessible than ever,” he said. “Whether you’re here for the beaches, the culture, or the space program, we’re ready to welcome you.”
Local officials in Brevard County noted the surge in visitors has boosted hotel occupancy rates to 82%, up from 76% in 2024. Space Coast tourism director Lisa Martinez said the Kennedy Space Center’s new Mars exhibit and the recent launch of SpaceX’s Starship program have drawn significant interest. “We’re seeing more families and STEM-focused groups coming here,” she said. “It’s a win for our economy and our community.”
The record numbers come as Florida’s tourism industry continues to outpace national averages. The state’s tourism sector generated $117 billion in economic impact in 2025, according to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity. DeSantis called the figures “a testament to Florida’s resilience and appeal” and pledged to maintain policies that support the industry’s growth.
