Governor Ron DeSantis has ordered flags at the Florida Capitol, Brevard County Courthouse, and Palm Bay City Hall to fly at half-staff on Saturday in honor of former U.S. Rep. Bill Posey. 'Our prayers go out to his family,' DeSantis wrote. U.S. Rep. Mike Haridopolos, who represents Florida’s 19th District, also paid tribute to Posey. 'He earned a reputation as a steadfast advocate for fiscal responsibility and government transparency,' Haridopolos said in a post. Posey was a co-founder of the Congressional Estuary Caucus, which focuses on coastal and environmental issues. The flags will remain at half-staff through the day’s end. Posey’s death has drawn attention from local leaders, including Brevard County Commissioner Jerry Holland, who called him 'a dedicated public servant' in a statement. Posey’s legislative career spanned more than three decades, with a focus on environmental policy and economic development. He was a key figure in Brevard County politics, representing areas including Titusville and Palm Bay. His passing follows a year marked by health challenges, according to family members. The half-staff directive follows similar actions taken by state and federal officials after the deaths of prominent figures. Posey’s funeral is scheduled for next week in Titusville.
