Voting for the PuroClean of Melbourne Boys Athlete of the Week is underway for the final time this school year. The ballot is available at floridatoday.com, with voting open until noon on Thursday, May 14. This will be the last selection for the 2025-26 season, following Jesse Decter of Merritt Island baseball as the previous winner. Votes are limited to once per device per hour. Coaches and athletic directors can nominate athletes by emailing [email protected] by 10 a.m. each Sunday with accomplishments from the prior Monday through Saturday.
Five athletes are nominated for their performances at the Class 1A and 2A state track meets in Jacksonville the week of May 6-7. Evan Spreitzer of Holy Trinity won the state title in the 1600-meter run (4:14.51) and placed second in the 3200-meter (9:26.77). He also helped his 4x800 relay team finish third. Camryn McRoy of Holy Trinity took second in both the 110- and 400-meter hurdles and was part of the 4x100 relay team that placed sixth. Malik Evans of Cocoa placed 12th in the 100-meter and fourth in the 200-meter at the Class 2A meet, contributing to an 8th-place 4x100 relay team.
Jonas Dowdell of Edgewood won the Class 2A state title in the 3200-meter (9:31.07), while Landon Plechaty of West Shore placed second in the javelin at the same meet. Christopher Gordon of Rockledge won the 400-meter title, took second in the 200-meter, and placed third in the 100-meter.
