The FBI is investigating the disappearance of 41-year-old Alejandro Jacomino González, a Cuban-born truck driver who has not been seen since leaving a rest stop on southbound I-95 in Grant-Valkaria on April 17. González was transporting vehicles when he pulled over at the rest stop around 1:20 a.m. and returned to the road at 7:49 a.m. heading toward Miami, according to authorities. His GPS data showed him driving to the next exit before turning back toward Jacksonville, but he has not been reached since. His truck and some of the vehicles he was hauling were found in Port Wentworth, Georgia, but no trace of González has been located.
González is described as 5 feet 11 inches tall, bald, with a brown beard and mustache. He has tattoos, including a full sleeve on his left arm. Truck drivers who use the rest stop say they are concerned about safety. One driver said, 'We want to know our community is safe, even on 95, even in rest stops.' Another driver, Robert Wallace, noted that 'people try to do the wrong thing, and they think that truck drivers are vulnerable.'
The FBI said agents located González’s truck and some of the cars he was transporting in Port Wentworth, Georgia. A driver at the rest stop said, 'I pray that he is found safely. We could care less about the load; human life is more important.' Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the FBI. González’s disappearance has raised concerns among truckers who rely on rest stops for safety during long hauls.
Drivers at the rest stop said they prefer stopping at public rest areas over gas stations for safety. 'I usually would rather stop at a station, a rest stop like this than a gas station,' said one driver. The FBI continues to search for González, emphasizing that his safety is the top priority. Investigators have not yet determined why he turned back toward Jacksonville or what happened after he left the rest stop.
