Eleven Brevard County high school softball teams have secured spots in the FHSAA regional playoffs, the Florida High School Athletic Association announced Friday. The regional quarterfinals will begin Wednesday, May 6, with Classes 1A-4A competing first, followed by Classes 5A-7A on Thursday, May 7. The regional semifinals are scheduled for May 12, and the regional finals will take place May 14. The state finals will be held May 19-23 at Boombah-Soldiers Creek Park in Longwood.
In Class 1A, Region 4, Merritt Island Christian is the No. 5 seed and will host Master’s Academy in a rematch of the district championship game, which Master’s Academy won 11-0. In Class 2A, Region 2, Melbourne Central Catholic earned the No. 5 seed after winning the District 8-2A title and will face Trinity Catholic, the No. 4 seed from District 6-2A. Space Coast, the No. 8 seed, will travel to The First Academy, the top seed.
Astronaut High School is the No. 6 seed in Class 3A, Region 2 and will play Crystal River, the No. 3 seed, in a matchup of district champions. Three Brevard teams qualified in Class 4A, Region 2: Eau Gallie, the No. 1 seed and District 9-4A champion, will host Seabreeze, the No. 8 seed. Merritt Island, the No. 5 seed, will face Vanguard, the No. 4 seed and district champion. Satellite, the No. 6 seed, will play Lake Region, the No. 3 seed.
In Class 5A, Region 4, Bayside High School is the No. 6 seed and will host Sebastian River, the No. 3 seed, in a rematch of the district championship game, which Bayside won 4-2 in eight innings. Heritage, the No. 8 seed, will travel to Pembroke Pines Charter, the No. 1 seed. In Class 6A, Region 2, Melbourne High School is the No. 2 seed and will host Oviedo, while Viera, the No. 6 seed, will face Bloomingdale.
