Eau Gallie's softball team fell to Cocoa Beach 11-3 on April 10 in a non-conference matchup at Minutemen Field. The Commodores, who entered the game with a 14-11 record, were outscored in all innings except the fifth, when they managed two runs. Cocoa Beach, 20-7 on the season, capitalized on Eau Gallie's five errors to secure the win.
The game's first seven innings were dominated by Cocoa Beach, which scored 11 runs on 12 hits. Eau Gallie managed just three hits total, with the team's only runs coming in the fifth and seventh innings. The Commodores' pitching staff allowed 11 runs on 12 hits, while Cocoa Beach's pitchers held Eau Gallie to three runs on eight hits.
Eau Gallie head coach Sarah Mitchell said the team struggled to execute its game plan against Cocoa Beach's aggressive defense. 'We didn't make enough plays in the field, and that cost us,' Mitchell said. 'Cocoa Beach is a tough team, and we knew coming in that they'd be ready.'
Cocoa Beach's offense was led by senior catcher Emily Tran, who drove in four runs with two doubles. The Minutemen also benefited from strong pitching, with starting pitcher Morgan Lee allowing just three runs over seven innings. Eau Gallie's starting pitcher, junior Alyssa Rivera, lasted five innings before being relieved.
The loss drops Eau Gallie to 14-12 on the season. The Commodores are scheduled to play West Boca Raton next on April 12. Cocoa Beach, which improves to 20-8, hosts Palm Bay on April 13.
