Eau Gallie High School pitcher Collin O’Connell struck out seven batters in five innings to lead his team to a 10-0 victory over Regis High School on March 25 at the USSSA sports complex in Viera. The game was part of a series of Spring Break matchups between local teams. Eau Gallie’s defense held Regis to just two hits, with Dominic Breckenridge and Brock Lustic combining for three key plays in the field.
The shutout marked Eau Gallie’s third consecutive win in the series, with coach Vincent Breckenridge praising his team’s focus. ‘We’ve been working on our pitching all season,’ he said. ‘Today, everyone executed the game plan.’ Regis’ Owen Eaton reached base twice but was left stranded in both instances, with one of his advances coming after a throw from Breckenridge missed the cut.
Eau Gallie’s Hunter Henderson made a diving catch to snare a line drive by Regis’ Jake Bohnke in the third inning, preserving the shutout. The game’s only run came in the bottom of the first when Eau Gallie’s Deklyn Tynan hit a two-out double, scoring on a wild pitch. By the fifth inning, Eau Gallie had extended its lead to 8-0 behind a three-run home run by Sergio Prieto.
Regis’ Rook Smith, who started on the mound, surrendered six earned runs in four innings. The loss dropped Regis to 2-3 in Spring Break games this season. Eau Gallie’s victory improves its record to 5-1 in the series. The teams will face off again on April 1 at the same venue.
