Eastern Florida State College’s Concert Choir and Madrigal Ensemble will present their Spring Choral Concert on Monday, April 27, at 7:30 p.m. in the Simpkins Fine Arts Auditorium (Bldg. 4) on the Cocoa Campus. The event will feature performances by both ensembles, accompanied by collaborative pianist Jean Black. The concert is free and open to the public.
The Concert Choir will be conducted by Dr. Robert E. Lamb, and the Madrigal Ensemble will be led by Mr. Justin Walker. Both groups will perform a mix of Renaissance masterworks, spirituals, and contemporary compositions. The program includes pieces such as Thomas Weelkes’ When David Heard, Johannes Brahms’ Vineta, and André J. Thomas’ Walk the Streets of Gold. The Madrigal Ensemble will also premiere a new work titled Eldorado, composed by Walker.
The concert will take place in the Simpkins Fine Arts Auditorium, a venue known for its acoustics and frequent use for college performances. The event is part of EFSC’s ongoing commitment to providing accessible arts programming in Brevard County. Admission is free, but attendees are encouraged to arrive early for seating.
The program’s diversity reflects the ensembles’ focus on both historical and modern repertoire. Walker’s new composition, Eldorado, will be the first piece premiered by the Madrigal Ensemble since 2023.
