The 14th annual East Coast Dog Surfing Festival will take place on Easter Sunday, April 5, at Lori Wilson Park in Cocoa Beach. The event, which includes dog surfing competitions, a Doggy Bikini Contest, and an Easter Outfit Contest, raises funds for the Brevard Humane Society. Sharkin’ Sammie, a Tampa-area Chiweenie, will return to defend his title as the top dog surfer. The small dog has won the championship two years in a row and is aiming for a third consecutive victory. Matt Hall, media specialist for the Brevard Humane Society, said Sammie is known for his confident stance and crowd-pleasing rides. The festival will also feature Marlee, a Corgi competing in both the surfing event and the Doggy Bikini Contest. Hall described Marlee as a playful competitor who will bring a fun style to the event. Twenty-four dogs are pre-registered for the surfing competition, with 113 total dogs signed up for the festival. The event is held at Lori Wilson Park, 1500 N. Atlantic Ave., Cocoa Beach. The festival has become one of the Space Coast’s most eclectic annual events, drawing participants and spectators from across the region. Proceeds from the festival support the Brevard Humane Society’s efforts to care for homeless animals. The event includes surfing lessons for dogs, adding to its appeal for families and animal lovers. Hall emphasized the festival’s role in raising awareness and funds for the Humane Society. The competition will take place on the beach, with spectators encouraged to attend and support the participating dogs. The festival’s organizers hope to see strong turnout this year as the event continues its tradition of combining fun with philanthropy.
