Deltona's defense held Viera to 176 total yards, limiting the Hawks to just two first-half first downs. The Wolves capitalized on a pair of turnovers in the second quarter, scoring a touchdown and a field goal to take a 10-0 lead. Viera responded with a 12-play drive in the fourth quarter, culminating in a touchdown pass from quarterback Ethan Ramirez to wide receiver Jake Martinez. The Hawks' lone score came with 5:22 remaining, but Deltona's defense stopped Viera on the ensuing kickoff and sealed the win with a 35-yard field goal by kicker Liam Carter.
Deltona head coach Mike Thompson praised his team's resilience after a rough start to the season. 'We've had some growing pains early, but this win shows we're capable of competing with any team in the state,' Thompson said. Viera coach Carlos Mendez acknowledged his team's struggles but highlighted progress in the second half. 'We're still figuring out our offensive identity,' Mendez said. 'But I saw flashes of what we can be.'
The game drew a crowd of 217 fans, the largest attendance for a Viera football game since 2022. Deltona's next matchup is at home against Palm Bay on September 12, while Viera hosts Melbourne High School the following week. Both teams remain winless in their respective conferences but have three weeks of non-conference play remaining before league action begins in October.
