Crews are battling a brush fire in Suburban Estates, a neighborhood near Holopaw in Titusville, officials confirmed Monday. The fire broke out in a wooded area near the intersection of Holopaw Road and Suburban Drive, according to Brevard County Fire officials. Smoke was visible from nearby homes, prompting authorities to advise residents to keep windows closed and avoid the area.
Firefighters from the Titusville Fire Department arrived on scene within 15 minutes of the initial call, using water and fire retardant to contain the blaze. The fire is estimated to have covered approximately two acres, though officials said it was not immediately threatening any structures. No injuries have been reported so far.
Residents in the area described the smoke as acrid and visible for blocks. 'It smelled like burning leaves, but worse,' said one neighbor, who asked not to be named. 'We’ve had a few small fires here before, but this one feels bigger.'
Brevard County officials said the cause of the fire is under investigation. Preliminary reports suggest it may have been sparked by a vehicle, though no evidence has been found yet. Firefighters remain on scene to ensure the fire is fully extinguished.
The fire comes as Brevard County continues to see an increase in wildfires during the dry season. Officials have urged residents to report any suspicious smoke or flames immediately.
