The loss marks the end of Cocoa's season in the playoffs, while Cocoa Beach advances to the next round. The game, streamed via MaxPreps, drew attention from local fans and coaches, with many noting the Minutemen's strong performance in the second and third sets. "They played with a lot of intensity," said one spectator. "Cocoa had some good moments, but Cocoa Beach was just more consistent."
Cocoa's season record now stands at 3-18, while Cocoa Beach improves to 9-17. The Tigers will finish their season with a home game against Palm Bay next week. The Minutemen, meanwhile, will face Rockledge in the upcoming round.
This year's playoff matchup was the first between the two schools since 2021, when Cocoa Beach won 3-1 in the regional semifinals. The rivalry has grown over the years, with both teams competing for spots in the state tournament. Despite the loss, Cocoa coach Maria Lopez praised her team's effort. "We fought hard, but we have a lot to work on," she said. "This game shows where we need to improve."
