Cocoa Beach’s soccer team fell to Downtown Doral 4-1 in the Class 3A state semifinals at Lake Myrtle Sports Complex in Auburndale on Thursday. The Minutemen, who finished the season with a 16-8-1 record, scored their only goal through Jadyn Senger nine minutes into the second half. The loss ends a historic postseason run for the program, which captured its first-ever regional title and advanced to the state semifinals for the first time in school history.
Downtown Doral took a 1-0 lead at halftime after Santiago Ramos scored in the first half. The Minutemen equalized early in the second half before the Dolphins pulled away with three goals in the final 22 minutes. Ramos added his second goal of the game with 22:19 remaining, and Alejandro Avila and Jesus Escalona scored in the final six minutes to seal the victory.
Cocoa Beach’s season will be remembered for its resilience, including back-to-back road wins in the regional tournament to claim the program’s first regional final title. The team also earned its second consecutive district championship this season. Head coach Chasite Banks called the run a "huge step forward" for the program, though the semifinal loss marked the end of a historic campaign.
The Minutemen’s 16-8-1 record is the best in program history, and their postseason success has set a new standard for future teams. Despite the loss, the program’s achievements this season have already left a mark on Brevard County high school sports.
