Chicken wings have claimed the top spot as Brevard County's favorite Super Bowl snack, according to a recent survey conducted by the Brevard County Chamber of Commerce. The poll, which collected responses from 1,200 residents between January 10 and 20, found 38% of participants chose wings as their go-to snack for the big game. Pizza and nachos followed closely with 29% and 22% respectively.
The survey was part of the chamber's annual Super Bowl event planning efforts, which include coordinating tailgates at the Brevard County Fairgrounds. "Wings are a staple here," said chamber director Laura Thompson. "They’re easy to eat, pair well with beer, and fit the festive mood."
Local restaurants reported a spike in wing sales ahead of the Super Bowl. At Mel's Chicken in Melbourne, owner Mark Reynolds said pre-orders for 20-piece buckets jumped 40% compared to last year. "We’ve been selling out by noon on game day," he said. The restaurant plans to add a Super Bowl special—$12 for a bucket with a side of coleslaw and a drink.
While wings dominated, the poll also revealed regional preferences. Residents in the Cocoa area favored pizza more than the county average, while those in Palm Bay selected nachos at a slightly higher rate. The survey did not collect data on snack consumption habits beyond the Super Bowl.
The chamber plans to use the results to guide its 2024 Super Bowl event, which will feature a "Wings & Wishes" food truck festival at the Port of Melbourne on February 11. Tickets go on sale next week.
