Central Catholic High School’s football team started practicing for the 2026 season on July 28 in Melbourne. The team is under new leadership after Ryan Schneider was named head coach in June. Schneider, who previously coached at Satellite High School, said his focus is on building a competitive program.
The team’s practice fields at the school’s campus on Saturn Avenue, where players worked on blocking techniques and route running. Schneider emphasized discipline and fundamentals during the session. He said the team has 35 players signed up for fall practice, up from 28 last year.
Senior linebacker Jake Martinez said the new coaching staff has already made a difference. “They’re holding us to a higher standard,” Martinez said. “We’re doing more drills and staying longer after practice.” The team’s first game is scheduled for August 26 against Space Coast Christian.
Schneider acknowledged challenges ahead, including competing with programs like Cocoa and Palm Bay. He said the team will focus on improving its defense, which allowed 210 points last season. “We need to be physical and play smart,” he said.
Parents and students gathered at the practice field to watch the team. Some said they’re optimistic about the season. “It’s exciting to see new energy,” said Maria Lopez, a parent of a freshman player. “We’ve been waiting for this change.”
