The Brevard Zoo is offering free admission for children under 12 to Florida residents on select dates in May as part of its annual Family Fun Days program. The initiative, which runs from May 1 through May 31, aims to make the zoo more accessible to local families. Parents and guardians must present valid Florida identification at the gate to qualify for the discounted rate. The zoo’s director, Sarah Mitchell, confirmed the program is designed to encourage outdoor learning and family bonding. 'We want every family in Brevard County to have the chance to experience what we do here,' Mitchell said. The event is part of a broader effort by the zoo to increase visitor numbers during the slower spring season. The zoo, located at 1800 N. US Highway 1 in Titusville, typically sees a 30% drop in attendance between March and May compared to peak summer months. Free child admission is available on the first and third Saturdays of the month, with additional dates added if weather conditions permit. The program has been well-received in previous years, with over 2,000 families participating in 2023. The zoo also offers free admission for seniors on the same dates, though that program is limited to residents of Brevard County. Mitchell noted the zoo is monitoring attendance closely and may adjust dates if needed. 'We’re committed to making this work for our community,' she said. The initiative is funded through a combination of private donations and general operating funds.
