The Brevard Zoo in Titusville is hosting its first Halloween event, opening October 14 and running through October 31. The event, called 'Zoo After Dark: Spooky Safari,' invites visitors to explore the zoo in the evening with themed activities. Admission is $15 for adults and $10 for children, with proceeds supporting the zoo's conservation programs. The zoo’s main entrance will stay open until 9 p.m. each night during the event.
The event includes a haunted house, trick-or-treating stations, and live animal encounters. Staff members will dress in costumes, and some exhibits will have Halloween-themed decorations. The zoo’s nocturnal animal habitats will be accessible, allowing visitors to see animals like owls and bats in their natural environment.
Zoo officials said the event aims to attract families seeking alternative Halloween activities. 'We wanted to create something fun that aligns with our mission,' said zoo director Sarah Mitchell. 'It’s a way to engage visitors while raising awareness about wildlife conservation.'
The zoo has extended its operating hours for the event, with gates opening at 4 p.m. daily. Regular zoo hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event is open to the public, though tickets must be purchased in advance through the zoo’s website.
Local parents have expressed interest in the event. Maria Lopez, a Titusville resident, said she plans to bring her children. 'It’s a safe alternative to traditional Halloween parties,' she said. 'We can enjoy the zoo and support a good cause.'
