The probe follows reports from residents across the Space Coast who say they paid deposits for fencing work that was never completed. Some customers have since received refunds, but others are still waiting for their money back. The contractor, identified as Secure Fence and Rail, has not publicly commented on the allegations. The Brevard Humane Society reported losing money to the company after paying a $500 deposit in June for a new fence to protect animals during adoption events. The project was never completed, and the organization said it only got a $1,100 refund check after FOX 35 contacted the contractor. Theresa Clifton, executive director of the Brevard Humane Society, called the refund a result of media pressure but expressed concern for other residents still waiting for their money. 'I feel very grateful that he was persuaded to give the money back to the homeless animals,' Clifton said. 'But I just feel really bad for the single mothers and families out there that paid and didn't get anything.' The investigation by FOX 35 Orlando uncovered a pattern of complaints across the Space Coast, including reports from homeowners who say they were left with half-finished fences and no way to contact the contractor. Some residents said they were unable to get refunds without public pressure. The sheriff's office did not specify the nature of the criminal charges but said the case is being reviewed by the county's fraud unit. Residents are being urged to contact the sheriff's office if they have similar complaints. The company's website remains active, but no recent projects are listed.
