'Neighborhood Walk and Talks' like this one give citizens a chance to meet deputies, see the horses, and learn how to avoid becoming 'crime's next victim,' he said in a statement. The Mounted Posse Unit has conducted similar events across the county since 2023.
Residents at the club praised the interaction. 'It's nice to see the horses and talk to the deputies face-to-face,' said one attendee. The patrol lasted about 90 minutes, with deputies answering questions about theft, fraud, and burglary trends. No arrests were made during the event.
The Mounted Posse Unit, which includes 12 deputies and 15 horses, typically conducts two to three community events monthly. The unit's work is part of BCSO's broader strategy to reduce crime through community engagement. Sheriff Ivey did not specify future events but said similar patrols will continue in other neighborhoods.
