Blair Lovelace, former principal of Coquina Elementary School in Viera, has been named one of only five elementary school principals statewide to receive the 2025–26 Florida TaxWatch Principal Leadership Award. The honor recognizes leaders in high-risk K–12 public schools across Florida. Lovelace was celebrated by Brevard Public Schools officials for her work at Coquina Elementary, where she served before her recent appointment as assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction.
The Florida TaxWatch Principal Leadership Award (PLA) program, established in 2013, selects recipients based on performance in schools facing significant challenges, including poverty, student mobility, and limited resources. Lovelace’s selection highlights her impact in Brevard County, where she has worked for over a decade.
Brevard Public Schools officials said Lovelace’s leadership at Coquina Elementary improved academic outcomes and fostered a culture of collaboration. She was also named Brevard Public Schools Principal of the Year in 2023.
The award is presented annually to principals who demonstrate excellence in student achievement, school improvement, and community engagement. Lovelace’s win comes as Brevard County continues to focus on addressing educational disparities in its schools.
Florida TaxWatch, a nonpartisan fiscal policy group, administers the PLA program. The organization said Lovelace’s work aligns with its mission to support effective leadership in public education.
Lovelace is set to begin her new role as assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction in April 2026, following her tenure at Coquina Elementary.
