Health First's Holmes Regional Medical Center held its fourth annual Trauma Patient Survivor Reunion on Wednesday, May 20, uniting trauma survivors, their families, and the medical teams who treated them. The event took place at the medical center in Melbourne and included survivors of vehicle, boating, and motorcycle accidents. Over a dozen survivors attended, reconnecting with surgeons, emergency medical personnel, and Health First's First Flight air ambulance crew. Terry Forde, CEO and president of Health First, gave opening remarks, highlighting the importance of the day. The reunion also coincided with National Trauma Survivors Day, observed annually on the third Wednesday of May. Survivors shared stories of their experiences, and care teams reflected on the impact of their work. Forde emphasized the event's role in strengthening the bond between patients and providers. The gathering included meals, tours of the hospital, and opportunities for survivors to meet with clinicians who treated them. Health First officials said the event aims to recognize the resilience of trauma survivors and the dedication of first responders. The reunion is part of Health First's ongoing efforts to support trauma care in Brevard County. Survivors and families praised the event for its personal touch, with one attendee calling it 'a chance to say thank you.' The next reunion is expected to take place in 2027.
