Megan Wright won the Brevard County School Board District 1 race on August 18 with 54.03% of the vote, defeating challenger Tara "Coach T" Gibson. The district, which includes Titusville, Mims, and Cocoa, had only two candidates on the ballot, allowing Wright to avoid a runoff. She will serve her second term after first winning the seat in 2020.
In District 2, which covers Cocoa, Rockledge, Merritt Island, Cape Canaveral, and Cocoa Beach, incumbent Gene Trent finished first with 41.93% of the vote. He will face Kyle Savage, who received 31.33%, in a November 3 runoff. Kelly Wentworth came in third with 26.88%. The race highlights a fragmented vote split among multiple candidates.
District 5, representing Melbourne south through Palm Bay, will also have a runoff between Tammy Dennis and Michele McCormack. Dennis received 40.94% of the vote, while McCormack got 36.27%. Cecilia Trotter took third place with 27.79%. The seat will replace Katye Campbell, who has held the position since 2018 but was ineligible to run again due to a 2023 redistricting measure.
School Board members in Brevard County are limited to two four-year terms under a 2022 state law. They earn $53,863 annually. The results leave three districts with new leadership by November, with District 1’s outcome settled immediately. Voters in the two runoff districts will decide their representatives in the coming months.
