Brevard County has partnered with IQAir to provide residents with a detailed air quality map that updates hourly. The tool displays pollution levels across the county using a color-coded system, helping residents track conditions in their neighborhoods. The map is accessible online and through the IQAir mobile app, which has been downloaded more than 10,000 times locally since its launch last month.
The map includes data on particulate matter, nitrogen dioxide, and ozone levels, sourced from sensors in major cities like Melbourne and Palm Bay. Local officials say the tool is especially useful during wildfire seasons and high-traffic periods. 'This gives people the ability to make decisions about outdoor activities based on current conditions,' said Brevard County Environmental Services Director Lisa Chen.
IQAir’s global network of sensors feeds data into the map, which is updated every hour. The system has been in use in other parts of Florida for over two years, but this is the first time it’s been deployed in Brevard County. Residents can zoom in on specific areas, including schools, hospitals, and parks, to see localized pollution trends.
The map has already been used by several local schools to adjust outdoor recess schedules during high-pollution days. Officials encourage residents to check the tool before planning outdoor events or commuting. The data is also shared with state environmental agencies for long-term monitoring purposes.
