Brevard County’s population rose by 7,700 residents between 2024 and 2025, a 1.2% annual increase driven largely by people moving from other states, new data shows. The growth rate places the county among the top 50 fastest-growing in the U.S. for the year. Since 2000, Brevard has grown in 24 of 25 years, with the largest single-year jump of 14,200 residents between 2022 and 2023. The county’s population surged 17.3% over the past decade, reaching nearly 585,000 residents as of 2025.
The most recent growth was fueled by domestic migration, with more people moving into Brevard than leaving. Natural population change, however, was negative in 2024-2025, as deaths outpaced births by 2,800. International migration added about 1,200 residents during the same period. The county’s population has fluctuated slightly in recent years, with a dip of 934 residents between 2008 and 2009 during the Great Recession.
County officials attribute much of the recent growth to Brevard’s expanding job market, particularly in aerospace, healthcare, and technology sectors. The population increase follows a trend of rising housing prices and infrastructure investments, though some residents have moved to surrounding counties due to cost-of-living pressures. "Migration from other states has been a key factor," said a county planner, who noted that Florida’s overall population growth has drawn attention from across the country.
Despite the recent gains, Brevard’s population growth has slowed compared to its peak in the early 2020s. The county’s population has grown steadily since 2000, but the 2024-2025 increase was its smallest since 2021. Census data highlights the complex interplay of birth rates, deaths, and migration patterns shaping the county’s demographics. With 7,700 new residents added in the past year, Brevard continues to balance its reputation as a rapidly growing area with the challenges of sustaining that growth.
