Brevard County high schools wrapped up a busy week of athletic competitions with mixed outcomes across football, volleyball, and track and field events. The week featured several key matchups, including a closely contested game between Satellite High and Palm Bay High in football that ended with a 21-17 win for Satellite. The game drew a crowd of over 2,000 fans at the Satellite High Stadium, marking one of the largest attendance numbers of the season.
In volleyball, West Boca Raton High School advanced to the regional semifinals after defeating Cocoa High School 3-1 in a tournament held at the Brevard County Convention Center. The match lasted nearly two hours, with West Boca Raton’s junior setter, Maria Gonzalez, leading the team with 45 assists. Meanwhile, Ridge High School’s boys’ soccer team suffered a 3-2 overtime loss to Space Coast High School, ending their hopes of a playoff berth.
Track and field events at the Brevard County Fairgrounds saw standout performances from Titusville High School’s sprinter, Jordan Lee, who set a new personal best in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.8 seconds. The event, which drew over 500 participants, also highlighted strong showings from North Brevard High School’s relay teams.
Local coaches and athletes noted the importance of the week’s competitions as the season progresses. ‘Every game is a learning opportunity,’ said Satellite High’s football coach, Mark Thompson, following the team’s win. ‘We’re building momentum, but there’s still a lot of work to do.’ The next set of matches and tournaments are scheduled for the week of Sept. 14, with several teams aiming to secure playoff positions.
