Brevard County high school volleyball teams opened their seasons with a series of matches on Monday, Aug. 17, with several teams securing early victories. Pineapple Cove’s Palm Bay defeated Pineapple Cove West Melbourne 3-0 in a tightly contested match, while Melbourne High School also claimed a 3-0 win over Rockledge. The results set the stage for the first week of competition across the county.
At Pineapple Cove, Palm Bay’s victory came with scores of 26-24, 25-23, and 25-21. The win gave Palm Bay a 1-0 record, while West Melbourne fell to 0-1. In another key matchup, Melbourne High School swept Rockledge 3-0, with scores of 25-20, 25-23, and 25-18. Rockledge’s Marlee Jeddrie led the team with 7 kills, and Avianna Gaboury added 18 service aces. Kayla Chandler recorded 2 total blocks, and Arianna Jackson had 20 digs.
Melbourne Central Catholic also started strong, defeating Cocoa Beach 3-0 with scores of 25-18, 25-23, and 25-20. The win gave MCC a 2-0 record, while Cocoa Beach fell to 0-1. The matches showcased early talent and competitive play as teams adjusted to the season’s demands.
