Space Coast improves to 4-2 on the season, while Rockledge falls to 1-4. Taylor Birkenstock of Rockledge was the lone singles winner, defeating Naomi Duncan 9-7. Chloe Demont also claimed a singles victory for Rockledge, defeating Faith Yount 8-4.
In baseball, Cocoa Beach dominated Melbourne Central Catholic 7-2 on Feb. 24, with a strong team effort across the lineup. Cocoa Beach scored in every inning except the third, led by pitcher Kyle Dougherty who threw three innings, allowing just two hits and striking out four. The Eagles’ offense was led by Chase Janke, who drove in two runs, and Garrett Ramsey and Will Surman, who each had an RBI. Cocoa Beach moves to 3-3 on the season, while Melbourne Central Catholic drops to 2-4. The Cougars’ starting pitcher, Trevor Mitchell, took the loss after allowing seven hits and five runs over four innings.
