Brevard County Fire Rescue activated Station 86 and Engine 86 on March 8, 2026, expanding emergency response coverage for Barefoot Bay and Micco. The new facility is located at 1234 Space Coast Drive, a central point in the area. The station’s opening follows years of planning to address growing demand for fire and rescue services in the region.
Residents gathered at the station during an open house event to tour the building, meet firefighters, and see the new equipment. The facility includes modern training rooms, a fully equipped engine bay, and space for community meetings. Firefighters demonstrated equipment and explained how the station will handle everything from medical calls to structure fires.
More than 200 people attended the event, including families, local business owners, and school groups. Fire Chief Maria Lopez said the station will reduce response times by up to 40% in parts of Barefoot Bay. “This is about keeping our community safer,” Lopez said during a speech at the event. “We’ve listened to residents for years, and this station is their answer.”
The open house included a Q&A session, where firefighters addressed concerns about emergency protocols and community preparedness. Station 86 will serve a population of approximately 15,000 in Barefoot Bay and Micco, areas that have seen rapid development in recent years. The station’s opening comes as Brevard County Fire Rescue continues to expand its fleet and training programs across the Space Coast.
