A new Brightline train station in Cocoa has secured a $56.5 million federal grant, moving the project closer to construction. U.S. Rep. Mike Haridopolos announced the funding on Aug. 11, 2026, clearing a major hurdle for the Cocoa Brightline Multimodal Station. The grant comes from the U.S. Department of Transportation and covers most of the $80 million needed for the station near Clearlake Road and U.S. 1. The site is at the "Cocoa curve," a location Brightline has owned for years and long eyed for a Space Coast stop connecting to its Orlando-to-Miami route.
City and county leaders had previously applied for the same grant but were rejected. This time, the project got approval after persistent efforts. The funding will be supplemented by $15.5 million from the Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization, $5 million from the Brevard County Tourism Development Council, and $5 million from the city of Cocoa. Earlier this year, the station also received a $2 million boost from a Florida legislature appropriations bill for an access road.
Haridopolos lobbied the U.S. House Appropriations Committee last May for funding, which was later included in a bill passed in January 2026. The grant marks a significant step for Brevard County, which will soon have a Brightline stop joining the eight existing or planned stations along the Orlando-to-Miami line. The only current Brightline stops are in South Florida, with a planned station in Stuart delayed by cost concerns.
The project has faced delays for years, but the federal grant now provides the largest portion of the needed funds. Local officials say the station will improve regional connectivity and support growth. Construction is expected to begin once remaining funds are secured and permits are finalized. The station will serve as a key link between the Space Coast and Brightline's existing route, potentially boosting tourism and economic development in the area.
