A boy was airlifted to a hospital Monday morning after being struck by a vehicle near James Madison Middle School in Titusville, according to the Titusville Police Department. The incident occurred around 12:04 PM EDT on Dairy Road, a street that runs past the school's entrance. Police said the boy was riding a bicycle westbound on the sidewalk when he attempted to cross into the school's driveway.
The driver of the vehicle stopped before proceeding but failed to see the boy, police reported. The vehicle's tires did not make contact with the juvenile, and he was not seriously injured. Emergency responders transported him to a hospital via air ambulance as a precaution.
The boy's age was not disclosed in the police report, but the incident has raised concerns among parents and school staff about safety near the school's entrance. Dairy Road is a busy route for students traveling to and from James Madison Middle School, located at 1234 School Drive in Titusville.
Police have not yet determined if any charges will be filed in the incident. A representative from the Titusville Police Department said an investigation is ongoing and that the driver is cooperating with authorities. The school district has not issued a public statement about the incident.
