Blue Origin is seeking permits to build an 800,000-square-foot manufacturing facility on Merritt Island, according to documents filed with the St. Johns Water Management District. The project, named 'Project Horizon,' would be located on land leased by Space Florida at 8082 Space Commerce Way. Permit applications describe the facility as a 'large manufacturing facility and associated infrastructure within the Deep South parcel.'
The proposed site is part of Merritt Island's Exploration Park, a hub for aerospace activity. Permit documents filed on Feb. 24 indicate the facility could be used to manufacture commercial space launch vehicles. A separate permit application was submitted in November 2025 for an orbital launch system manufacturing complex on the same land, but the current project appears distinct.
The land is currently leased by Space Florida, which is listed as a co-applicant on the documents. The company did not respond to requests for comment. A Space Florida spokesperson said the organization could not share details as of March 6. The project would add to Blue Origin's existing presence on Merritt Island, where the company has operated for years.
Permitting applications show the facility would be built just south of Blue Origin's main buildings. No immediate details about timelines, employment projections, or specific launch vehicle models were available. The company has not confirmed the project publicly, but the permits suggest active planning is underway.
