BK Adventure is hosting bioluminescence events in Brevard County this week, coinciding with Dark Skies Week. The activities are taking place at the company's facility near Cocoa Beach, which has been modified to include bioluminescent displays. The event aims to highlight the natural phenomenon while promoting stargazing opportunities in the area. Dark Skies Week, organized by the International Dark-Sky Association, runs from April 15 to 22 this year. BK Adventure's display uses a combination of natural and artificial bioluminescent materials to create an immersive experience. The company has partnered with local astronomy groups to provide guided tours and educational programs about light pollution and conservation. Visitors can attend the events from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. nightly through April 22. Admission is free, but donations are being collected to support dark sky preservation efforts. The facility has been a popular spot for stargazing since 2018, according to BK Adventure's founder, Mark Thompson. 'We wanted to combine two passions—bioluminescence and astronomy—to create something unique,' Thompson said. The event has drawn visitors from across Florida, with some traveling from as far as Orlando. Local officials have praised the initiative, noting it aligns with Brevard County's efforts to protect its night skies. The county has designated several areas as dark sky preserves, including the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. BK Adventure's display will remain open through the end of the week, with plans to expand the program in future years.
