Barnes & Noble is set to open its new West Melbourne location on Tuesday, March 11, at 1557 W. New Haven Avenue. The store will open at 9 a.m. and is expected to draw book lovers and shoppers to the West Melbourne shopping corridor. The 15,000-square-foot space will feature thousands of books, a café, and event spaces. The store is part of Barnes & Noble’s effort to expand its neighborhood-focused model across Florida.
The grand opening comes after months of preparation by the retailer and local officials. The location is in a busy area near the West Melbourne Town Center, which already includes restaurants, retail stores, and offices. Barnes & Noble officials said the store will emphasize curated selections and community engagement. The store’s layout will include a dedicated children’s section, a café with seating for 60 people, and a space for author events and workshops.
Local residents and business owners have welcomed the new store. West Melbourne Mayor Robert Ashley said the bookstore will add to the town’s cultural offerings. ‘This is a great example of how retail can thrive when it’s rooted in the community,’ Ashley said during a recent meeting. The store will also host a series of free events in its first month, including a ‘Book Club Night’ and a ‘Family Story Hour.’
The new store is one of three Barnes & Noble locations opening in Brevard County this year. The others are in Palm Bay and Titusville. The West Melbourne store will employ about 50 people, many of whom will be hired from the local area. Barnes & Noble has not disclosed the store’s expected revenue but said it will offer a mix of new and used books, as well as a selection of gifts and games. The store will be open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
